Today, Epic Games released the first look at Unreal Engine 5 in an incredible real-time demo running on the upcoming PlayStation 5, powered by the next-generation AMD RDNA 2 graphics architecture and “Zen 2” CPU cores.
In the “Lumen in the Land of Nanite” demo, Epic Games previewed two new core technologies coming in Unreal Engine 5 that deliver unprecedented visual fidelity and photorealism, showing what’s possible with next-generation graphics technology:
- Nanite virtualized micropolygon geometry – frees artists to create as much geometric detail as the eye can see, allowing film-quality source art comprising hundreds of millions or billions of polygons to be directly imported into Unreal Engine.
- Lumen – a fully dynamic global illumination solution that immediately reacts to scene and light changes.
AMD RDNA 2 builds upon the groundbreaking first-gen RDNA architecture in current AMD Radeon graphics products. With AMD RDNA 2 powering top next-gen gaming consoles like PlayStation 5, AMD is leading the way in creating a unified gaming architecture across consoles, PCs, the cloud and mobile devices – unleashing the creativity of game developers to develop breathtaking, more life-like games across all gaming platforms.
