Today marks the launch of Stories on Twitch – which gives streamers an easy way to connect with their entire community directly on the mobile app, even when they aren’t live. Streamers with the availability to create Stories will be able to:

• Use 3 Types of Stories Formats
  • Images: Take a photo or upload an existing image in their camera roll
  • Canvas: Add color-gradient or Twitch-designed backgrounds
  • Clips: Add Clips of their channel or Featured Clips of another channel
• Layer on text and/or emotes to any image/Clip/canvas
• Notifications for when a streamer you follow has posted a story
• Analytics (total views, total reactions on each story on Twitch)
• Subscriber-only Story option

Australian streamers are already getting on board, with /TRASH posting their first story this morning here.

Twitch will also be adding more features in the coming months including creating polls, uploading videos, clip editing capabilities, tagging other Twitch users, and more. More details are included below and in this blog post published by Senior Product Manager Eduardo Fenili.

All Twitch users with the latest version of the app installed will see the new stories shelf at the top of the Following page. Creating stories is currently limited to Partners & Affiliates who have had at least one stream in the last 30 days. Access to eligible streamers will roll out gradually by the end of the week and on an ongoing basis as streamers meet the minimum eligibility requirements. Twitch may extend creation access to more streamers as it tests safety measures.

Stories will expire after 48 hours, giving viewers more time to enjoy each post and allowing streamers to learn what type of stories keep their community engaged. Streamers with at least 30 subscribers will have the option to create sub-only stories where they can offer special prizes, giveaways, or welcome new subscribers with a personal message.

Safety is factored into everything Twitch builds, so we want to roll this out in a way that fosters a safe space for the Twitch community. We’ll use automated scanning measures to help prevent the upload of harmful content, and viewers can report harmful content that violates the Community Guidelines directly in the app.
