Microsoft & Special Olympics Partner For Gaming For Inclusion Esports Event

Today, Xbox Wire announced that Microsoft will partner with Special Olympics to host the ‘Gaming for Inclusion’ esports event. ‘Gaming for Inclusion’ is a virtual, multi-day experience that showcases the power of inclusion through gaming, which includes:

  • From September 10, 2022, Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners, including those with and without intellectual disabilities, will compete in Rocket League on Xbox and PC in a bracket style tournament.
  • Then, on September 17, winners from the tournament will have the chance to play alongside celebrity supporters of Special Olympics, including NFL legend Jamaal Charles, TikTok influencer and content creator Vaultboy and WWE Superstars.
  • New this year is the addition of Special Olympics shoutcasters, who will provide commentary during the tournament. In August, Special Olympic athletes Jose Moreno, Amber Gertsch and Ben Gregory traveled to Microsoft’s campus in Redmond, Washington to become shoutcasters. There, they participated in an immersive, two-day event where they learned how to analyze a game, provide livestream commentary, and interview athletes and celebrity guests.
