Bethesda Brings The Dark Art Of Skyrim To Melbourne’s Iconic Caledonian Lane

Bethesda ANZ today announced the addition of two new pieces of art in Melbourne’s famous Caledonian Lane and released a time-lapse video of the artworks being brought to life. The two images are based on Bethesda’s iconic The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) and DEATHLOOP franchises, joining the existing DOOM Eternal mural in the lane.

The first piece of work is by a local Australian artist, Darryl Leech, who entered Bethesda’s The Dark Art of Skyrim competition and won the popular vote from five shortlisted entries. His artwork captures the darkness of The Elder Scrolls Online’s latest gothic horror inspired expansion, Greymoor, with subtle nods to the top selling fan favourite, Skyrim.

Darryl is both a member of the ESO community and a Melburnian himself, and getting to see his work painted as a mural for the first time ever is a dream come true.

“I’ve been a fan of the Elder Scrolls series for a while. Gaming is a huge inspiration to my art, so having mine showcased in an iconic laneway, in my own backyard, is incredibly exciting; I can’t wait to show my students. Thank you to everyone who voted for my work!” – Darryl Leech

Outside of his artistic work, Darryl is a primary school teacher and martial arts instructor of 20 years. His club, Sunshine Taekwondo, is focused on providing students, grade three and above, with a sense of confidence and self-respect through martial arts training. He also aims to offer committed students the chance to further their leadership skills and pursue a deeper study of international martial arts through a ‘World Tour’. From the old kingdom of martial arts, to the new realms of education, his time has been spent developing characters, both real and imaginary.

Alongside Darryl’s original piece, key art from Arkane Studios’ upcoming title DEATHLOOP has also made its debut in the historic laneway. The game’s unique and vivid art style is at home in Melbourne’s capital of street art. Arkane Studios is an award winning developer with a long history of visually striking titles that are as suitable for a gallery as they are for gamers’ TV screens.

“I’m incredibly pleased that we’re able to bring both original Australian art and a piece of our new title to the streets of Melbourne,” said Simon Alty, Managing Director at Bethesda Australia. “With more and more people enjoying games every year we’re proud to bring our recognisable games and settings to the streets of such a vibrant city,” Simon added.

Melbourne’s street art culture makes it the perfect place to bring Bethesda’s much-loved worlds to life. With new gaming venues and the city’s renewed focus on art these new pieces should liven up any visit to the CBD. You can find a series of images and videos of the murals below.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor and all parts of the year long Dark Art of Skyrim adventure are now available on PC, PS4/5 and Xbox One X/Series X/S. DEATHLOOP launches on PS5 and PC on May 21, 2021. For more info on these titles please visit the Bethesda website.
