It’s time for Episode 3 of Telltales ‘The Expanse’. The story can go one of two ways here, or I guess multiple, depending on the choices you’ve made. Reaching the halfway mark in an already great story, it’s a wonder what hard decisions are going to be thrown at us this time.
You’re on approach to an old space, said to be a possible relic from the ‘First Ones,’ in search of a treasure to potentially change everything. Once you start to navigate and explore these old halls, you begin to see the darker and more grim side of what living in space could be like. Unfortunately, you might not be the only one here as you spot evidence of someone else’s presence.
I’m starting to sound like a broken record when I talk about the episode lengths, but this one has to be the shortest yet. It took me less than an hour to finish, even with a decent amount of exploration as I tried to walk into every room I came across. This can come down to a few factors though. Based on previous decisions, outcomes naturally change for future episodes, so maybe with some other, wiser choices, I could extend this a little more.
This isn’t to say the episodes do not pack a punch, and due to some of the decisions this time around, I came across a rather sad ending after a twist in my stories course. This was quite impactful and hit me right in the feels, but I must stay strong and continue this story with the choices I made until the very end.
The setting of this episode, as mentioned earlier, is kind of on the darker side. Navigating the halls of an old space station seems like an easy task, however, for the squeamish, this might not be the case as the place is littered with coffins, and it only gets more grim as you go deeper.
The story keeps getting more intricate, deeper, and impactful, and each twist only keeps you on the edge that little bit more. I’m always down for a story, and even more when it takes a dark turn, showing that it’s not all action and drama, and Telltale has done well with this episode. I just wish it went a little longer.
The Good
- Great twist
- Emotional ending based on my choices
- Darker turn showing more about the story and universe
The Bad
- Shortest Episode yet
