Have you ever wanted to be in an anime world? Well, now you can! Welcome to ‘That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime Isekai Chronicles’, developed by ZOC Co. Ltd and Published by Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. Now, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.
Embark on a thrilling adventure as you step into the shoes of Rimaru Tempest, the protagonist of this animated series. You, as the player, will guide Rimaru’s journey from his life in Japan to his rebirth in a new world as a slime, where he discovers a host of new abilities and forms lasting friendships.
Starting the game off, you are taken through many amazing cutscenes that show you how you were reincarnated while also playing the main intro to the fantastic animation series. You are then brought to a new world while also being shown the basics of combat and how the combo system works, slowly following through the animated series storyline. It cut through essential stories from the main animation that gave the game the pop it needed.
It also draws people in by adding new and fun additions like building houses and expanding your village, as well as other unique details that make the player feel more involved in the game’s progress. Not to mention, I was able to replay missions to gain extra XP from completing side missions and goals for specific areas, and noting that there is a skill tree that gains you many passive attributes like more damage or defence, and completing side quests before the main quests can give you an advantage to survive longer.
Controls at first felt a bit confusing having to change between characters mid-battle, but as you get used to it, it starts to feel smooth with most common buttons being used for movement and regular attacks and other less used buttons for special attacks, which works out well as they are rarely pressed on accident. As you progress through the game, every new button and skill is given with a small tutorial that explains how to use and master, which was a nice touch.
Being from an animated series, the graphics are on the money, with detailed character animations and cut scenes that make you feel like you are watching the animated series. This reminds me a lot of Mario Super Smash Bros.
With multiple characters, the combat, and animation style brings a great set of combos and character styles to play, making for a great time.
The sound was very peaceful and catchy, bringing an excellent atmosphere to the game, like inviting you in for a coffee. Attack sounds also add a punch, making every special and regular attack feel valuable. Although the game has Japanese voices, it comes with accurate English text and anime enthusiasts. It’s a must for an authentic experience.
Overall, as I’ve watched this animated series multiple times, this game felt very true to the original series, giving me goosebumps throughout the entire game. Although it did skip over some important early stories, it made up for it by giving the player much more interactive playing, like building and managing their village.
I feel many animations should take this path, as it creates an excellent experience for the player to feel involved in the game series. It is a definite must-play for those seeking a fun and expansive experience.
