Teardown – Review

Developed by Tuxedo Labs, Teardown is a beautifully designed and polished game where everything has been created to be destroyed. Teardown is based in a township with you running the family business, Lockelle Teardown Services, and it’s a game in which you can make the desired paths into buildings by reshaping the urban environments. Sometimes you can take as much time as needed, but other times you need to set up a plan to get in and out quickly.

This game is as every bit of fun as it looks. Each mission gives you as much time as you need to drive vehicles into walls or just drive a front-end loader straight through a house. The first mission makes you take down a house for a land development company and I didn’t swing the hammer once, instead, I was straight in with the front-end loader, but after a few runs, I lost the bucket and started taking damage. Costly, but in the end, it was all worth it.

The developers have made a great decision in making multiple missions for each location because it forces you to find new ways to get around the locations. Every time you revisit an area, little things, such as the security personnel and access panels, have changed locations, so you won’t necessarily be able to blitz through the same locations as your last visit. Thankfully the game has a quick save function for those more frustrating missions so you don’t lose progress.

The controls are simple and easy to remember, using the standard W, A, S, and D keys with plenty of mouse clicking. The graphics are beautifully polished which made me feel like I was in some universe where LEGO & Minecraft have been merged to make a masterpiece, and I had hours of fun making each mission look like it’s a scene from some Zombie movie with the path of destruction I had left behind.

I’ve really enjoyed this title and it’s an awesome little stress relief after a big day at work being able to jump in and destroy as much as I want and make buildings non-existent.
