Subdivision Infinity DX (Playstation 5) – Review

‘Subdivision Infinity DX’ is an immersive sci-fi, dog fight shooter, made by MistFly Games and published by Blowfish Studios. It is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, Android, iOS, Xbox, and PlayStation, but for the people playing along at home, this review was done on the PlayStation 5.

Ready your ship and cruise the great expanse of space with a load of short missions to partake on in this title. The player will take on tasks such as destroying enemy ships and radar jammers, crush capital ships, and mine asteroids for rare material to craft with blueprints.

The plot for Subdivision Infinity DX is pretty weak as there is not much to it with you being sent out into unknown galaxies on missions. Though it is lacking story-wise, it does feel all the time was spent in the gameplay and graphics for the game.

Upgrading your ship with collected materials is something I recommend doing whenever you have the opportunity. In my first boss fight, I was constantly destroyed. This was mainly due to the sheer size of it compared to my ship.

The controls and combat are easy to learn with a very helpful auto-aim system. At times, it was a bit too helpful as it made the idea of the engagement circle in front of enemy ships pointless as bullets would just auto-track.

The hanger is where players will be able to check out other ships to buy and see what materials are needed to upgrade gear. I found farming for materials early on was the best way to tackle the unlocks in the hanger as the missions are quite short and they can be farmed quite quickly.

Graphically, this game is a beauty. Everything on screen just pops. The bright stars in the distance to the glare of the faraway sun shining on my shuttle radiates on screen. The pop of bright lights surrounding the space shuttles scattered around asteroid or meteor belts; it’s just captivating.

The audio tracks used for the game seem to be a down point as the type of music just didn’t really fit the theme for the game itself. With a more Hip Hop style soundtrack, it took me out of the experience a few times. Other than the music all the other audio from explosions to thrusters being burnt sounded great and were definitely the more atmospheric influences in sound.

In conclusion, I did enjoy the gameplay elements of Subdivision Infinity DX. I do wonder if it happen to have had multiplayer in the form of co-op would have it been a better experience? Possibly, however, with a more futuristic theme carried through the music and narrative, you could really roundhouse the experience altogether.
