We all have likes and dislikes and typically will make a decision based on experience or a basic sensory input. For myself when seeing the word ‘simulator’ I roll my eyes and ask, “Who would want to play a game where you pretend to work?” Consequently, I dive into these games and look up several hours later perplexed as to where the time has gone. ‘Ship Graveyard Simulator’ is no exception when it comes to the genre of drawing me in and holding my attention for hours.
The great Adam Brasher had the pleasure of reviewing the game originally and his review can be found here (Ship Graveyard Simulator Review – PS5). Now it’s the Switch’s turn and I have the pleasure of comparing the change in platforms. When it comes to gameplay everything is the same. So if you’re looking for a full explanation of what Ship Graveyard Simulator is visit the link above.
So what is different? The Switch’s controls are in all the right places, nothing feels out of place or awkward. The movement, however, feels slightly sluggish but is not so intrusive that it ruins the experience.
The hold-to-dash option is annoying though. A toggle to begin dashing until you stop moving or a toggle on-off option would have been appreciated.
Graphics are impressive for what the Switch has to offer however, there is a weird delay between when an object is broken, to when the collectable items appear. It is unclear if this is a software or hardware issue. Ultimately, the extra few seconds of waiting doesn’t detract enough from the game experience as a whole.
The audio is right on point. The relaxing music and soothing ambient noise envelop you entirely. The sound creates the perfect calming effect on the gameplay experience. You won’t even notice it there unless you take the time to stop and listen.
If you’re into simulators or want to give one a try then Ship Graveyard Simulator will not waste your time. Whether you’re playing docked or handheld this simulator will draw you in and hold your attention for hours without you even knowing it.
