I’ll be the first to admit I get a little excited when I get to review something from Republic of Gamers as I know I’m in for a treat with the quality of their products, with their latest headset release the ROG Delta II Wireless Headset, and glancing over the box I’m keen to tell you guys what treat you are in store for.
I have a soft spot for companies that do nice dark-themed packaging and ROG is no exception to that rule. You get the box with a beautiful matte black front and back with some nice red edges which is so simplistic which I love. You get a picture of the product on the front and then some information on the back with the Republic of Gamers and the headset’s name in a nice holographic font. You open the box to be greeted with some beautiful-looking headphones which once you pick them up are nice and light 318 grams, but feel super sturdy with the metal band across the top and leatherette-feeling ear cuffs.
You slide them on your head and feel they have put time into the quality and design. The actual earpieces aren’t your standard circle run-of-the-mill and have gone for more of a triangular shape which I learnt to love quickly. The ROG logo is on each side surrounded by a white line which once turned on turns into a beautiful RGB headset that you can’t miss.
If you go further into the box you will find a 3.5mm wired audio jack cable, USB-C to USB-A adapter dongle, USB-C to USB-A charging cable, and the Wireless 2.4GHz USB-C Dongle. ROG will also give you an extra set of earcuffs and a detachable wireless microphone which sounds insane for a headset.
I started using this headset and instantly retired my previous headset as this outperformed it on more levels than I would like to admit. You turn the headset on for the first time which boasts 50mm titanium-plated diaphragm drivers with a 20 Hz – 20 kHz frequency response which sounds amazing, especially after adjusting the settings a little bit to your liking.
The biggest issue I have found in the past with wireless headsets is the battery life which makes me look away from most of them, but not with this headset it rocks up to 110 hrs of battery life as long as you have the RGB lighting turned off, and then being able to have a 15-minute quick charge which will allow up to 11 hrs of use is insane.
I had been hunting for a new headset for my new PlayStation 5 which this headset was compatible with, and not only that, if you plugged the wireless dongle into the PlayStation you could still have audio from your PC also going with the dual connection functionality, they call this feature Dual Flow Audio and as the name says it allows audio to flow seamlessly without any disruption from either end.
I was a little upset that the Xbox was still not able to use wireless and needed to use the 3.5mm audio jack into the controller, but that is not ROG’s fault in the slightest. There are three different connectivity functions on the headset which are Bluetooth, 2.4GHz Wireless, and 3.5mm Audio Jack, so you have options wherever you want to play. The 2.4GHz wireless dongle utilises ROG’s SpeedNova which is their wireless technology that delivers a ultra-low latency connection.
I was impressed with the quality of the microphone and like all reviews I don’t tell anyone I’m testing things out, and no one seemed to make a comment which I was surprised by as I can normally hear the difference between a desktop microphone and a headset microphone. The microphone is a 10mm super-wideband boom microphone with a nice little foam filter which is a great little noise gate if needed. The microphone is detachable if you don’t want to run it if you are running a desktop mic or not interested in jumping into a voice chat.
Republic of Gamers has software you can download called Armoury Crate if you want to edit the headset settings to tailor them to your needs. This software is not required if you don’t want to and the headset will work as per usual out of the box, but I would highly recommend getting the software as it unlocks the full potential of the headset and lets you adjust things to how you want them. The software is super user-friendly but sometimes it would not pick up that headset connected to my PC via Bluetooth, or with the 2.4Ghz wireless dongle which was a little frustrating. I needed to restart the PC to fix the little bug and was unsure if it was my PC or something bugged in the software. You can adjust the lighting and how the sound works from adjusting equalizers to boosting the bass or setting a couple of preset modes depending on what you are doing. The software is free to download which you can find here.
I’m yet to find something from the Republic of Gamers that I don’t like. It would appear they put lots of time into their planning and building before the public gets to use their products, which impresses me time after time. The ROG Delta II Wireless Headset is the perfect headset if you are chasing something new, with its lightweight design and how sturdy it feels you will be gaming for hours, especially with that insane battery life. You can find more information about the headset here.
