The Viper is one of Razer’s newest ambidextrous, wired gaming mouse. Razer are always about smashing out products for gamers, by gamers that are quality but more importantly Esports quality for the consumer. Endorsed by MIBR’s Taco from the CS:GO scene, does it really shape up for an average Joe casual, like myself?
I was very skeptical about an ambidextrous mouse. I didn’t think it could have the comfort of a specifically designed mouse but Razer were pulling out all the stops to prove me wrong. Coming in at a light 69 grams, this mouse is certainly sleek and a very snug fit in any hand. Presenting in a silky, matte black with Razer’s iconic logo and Chroma back lighting front and center on the palm support, this time, this mouse even has some deep angular grooves, giving it a more elevated modern look compared to previous mice. Razer products are always in the forefront for style, that is for sure.
Moulded with a Razer’s patented Speedflex Cable, this 2.1m, fibre braided cable is light and effortless at creating minimal drag and it surprisingly makes for smoother moments around a pad. It really did allow for swifter glides and flick of the wrist swipes. It has various rubber grips on the sides that are very comfortable and strategically well placed. The scroll wheel as usual is front and center and definitely ribbed for your own pleasure.
Designed with their famous trademarked switches and 5G optical sensors, you can be sure, I found it very responsive with every click intentional and every movement mapped out with precision. It zipped around my screen with ease, no lagging of buttons, no sticking of clicks. Efficiency at its finest even with the lift boosted to ten.
As usual this peripheral run hand in hand with Razer’s illustrious software, the Razer Synapse. In here you can change the ambitiousness of the mouse and map out your own button functionality, with up to eight programmable buttons. You can also change the performance of sensitivity and polling rates. As usual, here is where you can famously adjust your Chroma lighting, giving you all the neon colour and cycle options of your dreams. I can not talk highly enough about this software; it is so efficient and easy to navigate.
The Razer Viper boasts an impressive DPI of up to 16,000 dots per inch, definitely an edge on any competitive play. Fortunately, you can adjust in range through the Synapse, making 5 stages that can be customized in DPI range, then changed at a push of a button underneath the mouse. You can also adjust the reporting rate of the mouse with it having a polling rate at a range of 125 to 1000 Hz. Razer are never not about customization, and I live for it.
The Razer Viper is an impressive mouse, sporting a comfortable fit no matter what hand you use it in. Being ambidextrous it comes with a range of features through its own software to adjust your gaming play style and suit it to your own preferences. Looking very stylish and being incredibly functional, this is one mouse that checks off all my marks at being a welcome edition to any set up.
