Minecraft’s newest DLC is the Dungeons & Dragons crossover between Everbloom Games and Wizards of the Coast, and players will be able to jump into this new adventure mode to experience the Forgotten Realms, visiting iconic locations like Candlekeep.
While this DLC is focused on the widely popular D&D game, it is still Minecraft at heart, but with some amazing new additions such as fully-voiced characters, new enemy mobs, and new skins that are amazing to see.
The story puts the player in the role of a simple villager, tasked with investigating the disappearances of other villagers, and without spoiling anything, you will have some company. A Golden Dragon has made a connection with you, sharing a common interest in that you both seek to return things to normal. The campaign has a great amount of content, roughly 10 hours, and makes for a great introduction for new and younger players interested in the world of D&D.
There are four playable classes to pick from before starting the adventure; Barbarian, Rogue, Wizard, and Paladin. Each class has unique skills that cover the range of combat for players, and yes, it can be played with friends, supporting up to 4-player co-op, so if you are new to D&D, or you just love a great campaign and the visuals of Minecraft, this is definitely a DLC worth grabbing to play with your mates.
A bunch of new enemies were introduced into the Minecraft world for the DLC, such as Mimics, Beholders, Mind Flayers, and some boss fights straight out of the pages of the monster manual. So how much D&D gameplay is in the game? You will be given a D20 to roll for advantage or disadvantage during dialogue and choices, and the outcome of your rolls can actually have some funny results.
Every NPC you can interact with is voiced, so if you try to persuade a guard with a false name and fail the roll, they will go into a big speech about how it’s not real, that you are a liar, and then they will stop having any interaction with you.
There are items in the hotbar to check on quest lines, the gear you have equipped, and also level up your stats. Another very helpful item is the Wayfinder, used to mark your next objective, and this is really helpful as the world is fairly large, so it’s easy to get lost exploring, just like core Minecraft.
The crossover with Dungeons & Dragons is a great addition for all players to experience, and as an extra bonus, you can play with three friends, experiencing the adventure as a squad, and you’ll enjoy the story and the fights ahead.
It offers a lengthy story filled with fun encounters for you and the party to come across, but sadly, you can’t use the textures or enemy types in a creative format, so at this stage, you can’t build your own D&D world filled with the unique monsters brought into the game.
