Saddle up for a wild ride with the Outlaws of Thunder Junction, the new series to Wizards of the Coast’s Magic the Gathering. A host of new commanders lead their bands of misfits across the dusty plains, including 10 never-before-seen Commander cards, while other characters come with all-new art, eager to make a name for themselves in the wild new frontier.
MKAU Gaming was generously provided with a care package that included the Grand Larceny commander deck, a pre-built 100-card deck dedicated to the Commander game style, as well as a Bundle pack, including nine play boosters, thirty land cards, an alternative art foil, and a d20 life counter. We were also provided with a variety of additional 14-card play boosters, and a handful of the 15-card Collector boosters – the packs more likely to contain the rarest of cards.
I have fond memories of playing Magic The Gathering during my youth, and while I haven’t played in close to twenty years, it’s always exciting to open shiny new packs. I can also appreciate how the art style hasn’t really changed all that much. The cards have always been packed full of incredible detail, with even the simplest of Land cards being filled with small details that really help bring them to life.
Some of my favourite cards from the Outlaws of Thunder Junction release are designed as wanted posters, really driving home the Wild West feel, and many of the newer cards carry a similar aesthetic. Returning characters, Enchantments, and Artifacts have been re-imagined fitting in with the new theming, offering existing collectors a wide variety of cards to collect.
If you’re keen to get a sample of what’s on offer, we’ll have an unboxing video available on our YouTube channel, so head on over to check it out. Don’t forget to let us know which of the cards I pulled was your favourite, and if you like what you see, swing by your local gaming store to pick some up!
