I Love Finding Cats & Pups: Collector’s Edition (Nintendo Switch) – Review

Published by Ocean Media and developed by Tiny Little Lion, I Love Finding Cats and Pups: Collector’s Edition is part of the studio’s library of themed puzzle games. Originally released to Steam in 2023, the Collector’s Edition is now available on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5.

I Love Finding Cats and Pups: Collector’s Edition is a series of puzzle games with the focus being to find a variety of cats and dogs, amongst various other objects. Players will be searching for them in various real-world locations. The Collector’s Edition adds six extra locations and twelve extra minigames.

The puzzles, as wild and random as they’re presented, are straightforward to play. The controls are just simple point and click which is all it needs. The game is easiest to play on a PC using a mouse, but the Switch and PS5 versions can control the cursor using either of the two thumbsticks and a single button to select the objects and solve puzzles.

Controlling the cursor on the console versions can be a little finicky, especially when you have to be really precise with positioning it on smaller objects, but thankfully there’s an option to adjust the cursor’s sensitivity. The Switch version has touchscreen capabilities which is a nice option and helps players to be more precise with selecting objects big and small, but the drawback with that feature is that the pictures are then too small to see in handheld mode on the Switch’s small screen. This of course will vary between different people and how good their eyesight is.

Puzzles are fun and enjoyable, offering a relaxing gaming experience that keeps the mind sharp, and as the title implies, there are more than enough, but also never enough cats and pups to locate.

Each puzzle takes place in various real-world locations with beautiful and breathtaking scenery, from cottages, colourful streets, beachside homes, ancient temples and more, but the most important puzzles, of course, are the close-up photos of the cute kitties and puppies, who are actually the pets of the game’s development team, Tiny Little Lion.

If players are struggling to solve the puzzles, they can get help by clicking on the hint button, complete with a cute pug sitting on it. It points out the next part of the puzzle, and it can be used again after a cooldown period. Players could also move the cursor all over the screen and keep pressing the button until it selects the object, but of course, the real fun is in playing the game as intended.

The style and presentation are incredibly aesthetically pleasing. The real-world locations featured have a very relaxing and calming atmosphere, and players can even uncover some interesting trivia to learn a bit more about them. All the images are high-resolution photos that look fantastic on any screen big or small, but we all know the real stars of the show are the cats and pups. The background music has a relaxing feel and compliments everything on the screen.

For AUD 15, there is more than enough to keep you busy. It’s best played on PC with a mouse, but still just as enjoyable on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. I Love Finding Cats and Pups: Collector’s Edition is a great way to relax, unwind, learn new things about the world and of course, admire all the cats and dogs.
