EPOS H6PRO Closed Acoustic Gaming Headset – Review

EPOS is very new on my radar as of late. Their unique designs and passion for design definitely jump out at me. Delivering to MKAU the ‘H6PRO Closed Acoustic Gaming Headset’, can EPOS give the consumers a quality sound experience? Let’s deep dive into what this headset has to offer.

The H6PRO is as sleek as they come. All dressed in frosty matte black plastic for the frame, this headset is paired with some decently sized ear cups wrapped in comfy cotton and memory foam cushions. After a decent stretch test, you will find a flexible headband covered with foam and pleather for a cozy fit for most sized heads. On the right ear cup, you will find an elongated, detachable, lift to mute boom mic which is also very flexible.

Being detachable, you can hide away the hole with a magnetic cover plate and just chill out away from having to interact with the world. What was impressive is the fact the build seemed very durable, made of hard plastics with some cool metal accents; these were built to last. Coming in three colours; classic Sebring Black, Ghost White, and oddly but alluringly, Racing Green, you will be blown away by the stylish and modern design of this headset.

Included inside the box is a spare mic cover for when you want to veg out without having to interact with anyone, a GSA 30 PC cable perfect for PC play, and an AUX console cable for all your console gaming needs. Each cable was 2 meters in length which is fabulous as I hate having to overextend or change my set-up due to reach issues. As for the mic cover, it was ingeniously magnetized so it snapped into place seamlessly and completes the overall, headphone’s aesthetic.

Functionally, the H6PRO is a total all-rounder. It is compatible with next-generation consoles, Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PCs (both Microsoft and Mac), tablets, mobile phones, and pretty much anything you can plug a 3.5m AUX jack into. A very impressive lineup indeed; so impressive I tested the H6PROs on as many of these devices as I could.

What sets the EPOS headsets apart is their uncanny ability to drown out the ambient sound with their closed acoustic ranges. While I was a bit skeptical to this when I tried them on as there wasn’t much clear difference without them plugged in however this thought soon changed. I found during gaming the sound was actually very clear and precise. So clear in fact, that a lot of little sound cues I needed in most games I play were easily distinguishable the more I cranked the volume. Also, when using them on musical devices such as my phone with Spotify, the basses rumbled and the trebles hit all the right notes in such dynamic sound.

The boom microphone has the ability to deliver your voice to any audience too with clarity and total definition. Call-outs have never been so easy and conversations have never flowed so well. Sound cutouts are definitely something you won’t experience with this headset.

Unfortunately, the EPOS H6PROs do not support 7.1 Surround Sound out of the box and are strictly plug and play. This means they also do not have the ability to be customised through the EPOS Gaming Suite software. This is a little disappointing as the H3 Hybrids also by EPOS were so customisable for the same price. On the plus side, EPOS do have the GSX 300 External Sound Card that will solve all these problems for anyone looking to add those features on PC. You can check out our review of the GSX 300 External Sound Card HERE.

At a reasonable price of $259, this is one solid headset by EPOS. Stylish, powerful and so functional with a vast range of devices, EPOS hears all your office and gaming needs and provides you will quality sound and audio to match. The EPOS H6PRO Closed Acoustic Gaming Headset is a clean addition to any setup.
