Blizzard has done it again with the latest installment from the Diablo series with Diablo Immortal, a free-to-play cross-play Mobile & PC game that does not feel free in the slightest. Diablo Immortal starts like you’d expect a Diablo game would; Demons, Monsters, Quests, and lots of hours played.
The touchscreen interface handles Diablo’s ability-based gameplay far better than expected. The graphics, voice acting & sound effects make you forget you are even playing a game on the mobile and just feel like you are playing a Diablo game on the PC. Unfortunately though, Diablo Immortals economy could not resist reminding you that the game is full of microtransactions and the daily “One Time” bundles.
The new Diablo game has been smart with the UI interface, keeping it free from being over-cluttered and free from distractions, allowing you to swipe most things away quickly to keep on the fight with the monsters.
The interface in Diablo Immortal has been kept crisp and easy to access everything from the main moving controls to the fighting controls with different abilities. Things can get a little complicated when you consider the number of locations, vendors & currencies available in Diablo. The added navigation system makes finding those things so simple. All you need to do is click the map, click the icon, and click navigate, and if it’s too far away, you will teleport.
The game runs just as well on the PC as it does on the mobile, and the ease of putting down the mobile and jumping straight back where I left off on the PC was a massive thumbs up from me. The game felt like I was playing any other Diablo game, which we have had to pay for in the past.
The controls and graphics prove to me that it’s a well-polished game. I felt like leveling was a breeze until I hit level 30 and things started to slow down a lot, so I found myself trying to smash as many rifts as I could to get the XP to keep leveling.
When you get further into the storyline, the missions start becoming more level-based and you need to hit the level before even seeing what’s going on in the mission. Completing rifts was one of the more enjoyable parts of the game. With a lobby full of friends, we smashed through them like they were nothing.
Diablo Immortal is a game I have spent hours on, both playing alone and with a group of friends, both on Mobile & PC, building up my barbarian character. To me, this game is far more than I expected for something Free-to-Play.
Whether you’re playing it just to stay occupied, wanting to keep up to date with the series until the release of Diablo IV, or just playing the game out of excitement, Diablo Immortal is a game simply worth playing and sinking lots of hours into.
