Cult Of The Lamb: Pilgrim Pack DLC (Steam) – Review

Developers at Massive Monster have been the true GOATS or should I say LAMBS as they provide free major content updates for their well-received and successful game, ‘Cult Of The Lamb’, from 2022. Voted my ‘Indie Game Of The Year’ that year, this small indie Australian team bring you something a little different this time around with their newest paid DLC, ‘Cult Of The Lamb: Pilgrim Pack’.

For a comprehensive review of the base game, follow the link here as this review will cover this DLC exclusively which we booted up on our dedicated benchmark PC supplied by ASUS. This is running an ASUS ROG STRIX Gaming RTX 4070 OC Edition with 12GB of GDDR6X memory, the tiny ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-I Gaming Motherboard, fitted with 32GB of DDR5 RAM, a 1TB M.2 SDD.

Most intriguingly, this DLC brings you an animated, mildly interactive comic in all the stylings you would expect from Cult of the Lambs; gratuitous violence and cute little furries. While the digital comic is a cool and unique addition, it isn’t very long and only mildly interactive with you picking which direction to go, like a ‘choose your own’ adventure title. While this was a novel (no pun intended) inclusion, it would have been nice to see more insight into our commander of the flock but it is a well-animated comic in bright colours and bold lines bringing a quirky tale.

The thing I appreciated the most though about this DLC is the way they incorporated the characters from the comic into the gameplay. Three of them become available followers you can indoctrinate into your cult and they can give you missions that inspire you to go back into the levels.

An example of this is going back into the Darkwood to retrieve Jalala’s bag which she lost in the comic which rewards you with more pages to read outside the game. These nice little connections and nuances made me dive back into all that the game had to offer again.

Along with that, there are a plethora of additional cosmetic features too. From the Pilgrim Pack, you will gain 5 new follower forms, 5 new building decorations, 2 new outfits, and a fleece for the lamb – a lot of quality content, at a low price range.

What I can thank this DLC for is the fact it revived my addiction to this game, engrossing me back into the gorgeous art style and challenging but satisfying gameplay. This DLC pack also introduced me to some new gameplay elements I missed from the initial release such as new relics and a now cool ‘Sin’ component.

Cult Of The Lamb: Pilgrim Pack is a great little DLC that will brainwash once again to follow the word of a cute and cuddly menace. Cult of the Lamb is a wolf in sheep’s clothing and I love it.
