ASUS TUF Gaming 1000W Gold White Edition PSU (Hardware) – Review

I’d never really given much thought to power supplies when I’ve built PCs in the past. So long as I had a high enough wattage to support what I was placing inside a case, I was good. It didn’t matter that I struggled to hide the excess wires, haphazardly cramming them into the closed-off side of the case and attempting to use cable ties to prevent the bulky mass from moving.

As a reminder of just how wrong I was, ASUS have sent us the TUF Gaming 1000W Gold White Edition power supply unit, an efficient, resilient and dependable PSU that’s engineered for the long haul, and the perfect power supply to fit into the ASUS Case A21 they’ve supplied for or benchmark build.

The crisp white shell features a very stylish design, so gone are the days of PSUs being boring blocks of wired mess. A shiny barred grill sits within an octagonal cut-out, floating the TUF logo over the clean white fan. Edges bevel down to the sides, with TUF embossed on the outward-facing side, alongside GAMING, OUTLAST THE COMPETITION, STAYING POWER, and 1000W in varying shades of grey and silver, reminding you that you’ve decided to go with a quality unit.

As a final display of perfection, the TUF logo makes another appearance, only this time, it’s cut from the casing and backed with a mirror-like finish, catching any RGB lighting you might have in your rig and enhancing the appeal even further.

While a good-looking piece of hardware is always nice, it comes down to the function, and ASUS TUF has left no stone unturned when it came to developing the TUF Gaming 1000W Gold White Edition power supply unit. Japanese capacitors and a slew of other premium components have earned it an 80 Plus Gold Certification, while a protective PCB coating prevents damage from moisture, dust, and extreme temperatures. Axial-tech fans make an appearance, alongside dual ball fan bearings, providing longer blades for smoother airflow and bearings that will stand the test of time.

ASUS is so confident in the TUF Gaming 1000W Gold White Edition power supply that they provide a 10-year warranty, and based on the quality of components and the rigorous testing they’ve completed, it’s no wonder they’ve achieved Military-grade certification on this.

Of course, the biggest appeal is the modular design. Supplied with a full set of etched cables, you can add or leave off whatever you don’t need – if you’re not using SATA drives, simply don’t connect the cables. Installation and cable management are made even easier by the etched cables.

While they resemble sleeved, they’re considerably more flexible, making cable manipulation and management significantly easier when dealing with smaller spaces, and it comes with enough cables to connect even the most over-the-top system.

They’ve also moved ahead of the curve by including an ATX 3.0 compatible 16-pin PCIe cable for the new PCIe Gen 5 graphics cards, capable of delivering up to 600W of raw power where and when it’s needed.

The connections on the TUF Gaming 1000W Gold White Edition power supply unit are easily accessible once installed in your chosen case, and they’re nicely labelled for your convenience. A 24/20-pin socket takes up the bulk of the top row, next to one of four 8-pin PCIe ports and the ATX 3.0 PCIe 16-pin socket, while three 6-pin peripheral/SATA/Molex ports rest aside the remaining 8-pin connectors, also doubling as the CPU outlet, but as I said before, if you’re not connecting external SATA devices, or you only have one PCIe card that needs dedicated power, simply don’t connect the cable.

ASUS has opened my mind by sending us the TUF Gaming 1000W Gold White Edition power supply unit. No longer will I struggle with stiff cables as I fight to push them through a narrow enclosure, and no longer will I risk a cable tie snapping under the pressure of the cable pushing against it.

Not only does the ASUS TUF Gaming 1000W Gold White Edition power supply unit make installation so much easier and tidier, but it also looks the part, all while delivering reliable and consistent power to your newly built pride and joy.

The Good

  • The modular design makes for a clean install
  • Etched cables make for easy cable routing
  • Clearly labelled and well-placed power ports
  • Comes with every cable you could ever need
  • ATX 3.0 compatible for those power-hungry PCIe 5.0 GPUs
  • A stylish design fit right in with clean builds
