Type Knight – Review

Published and developed by Chaikadev, Type Knight is fun and challenging game that is perfect for those who want to find an enjoyable way to improve and maintain their typing skills, or even for those who are just learning to type. With an enjoyable setting and dynamic weather, Type Knight makes improving your typing skills enjoyable.

The story and premise is simple; The forces of evil are swarming in a seemingly infinite cemetery, and it is your duty to type your way to purity. Words are your weapons as you set about removing all traces of the dark forces or die typing. Gameplay is simple if you haven’t gathered by now – it’s a typing game. You must type quickly and accurately in order to defeat the enemies you encounter, purging evil from this vile cemetery. Various enemies await, such as enchanted skeletons, bats and specters. If you happen to make it far enough an evil sorcerer will provide a much higher challenge.

As you progress further into the game, you can make use of special words, words that have a special ability you can use in combat and to deflect attacks. Along with various enemies and special attacks the game has easy, medium and hard difficulties, all of which can be easily defined with their speed and complexity in words that are presented. If you’re not fluent in the English language, some words will have you scratching your head, wondering if they were taken out of some obscure dictionary, but otherwise are fairly common to your vocabulary.

The dynamic weather system is a real treat, adding some variety to the scenery and atmosphere. Together with a selection of perfectly composed background music, what sounds like a very simple game comes to life in a way that isn’t overly distracting, especially when the game can get tense with longer and more complex words.

A great little function within Type Knight is the ability to create, import and save your own text. This will allow you to step things up a notch, or even assist with educational game play in schools. Type Knight has huge potential, particularly in schools. Something I feel would be a massive benefit is that the game already includes the ability to see and track your score, displaying the users progress with graphs and useful statistics. I know with how competitive I can be, I would have made sure I was at the top of the leaderboard for my school, a trait that I am sure many other students would share.

Type Knight is not a game for everyone; it certainly wasn’t something I was expecting to enjoy as much as I did. For those few people who are fans of typing games, or if you want to brush up on your typing skills, I can definitely recommend this game for you! If you happen to work in the education department and you’re reading this, Type knight would be perfect to introduce to your students. It’ll provide a fun way for them to learn to type, while giving you absolute control over the games complexity.
