We Stay Behind (Steam) – Preview

Last year we got the chance to check out the demo for We Stay Behind, which you can check out here (We Stay Behind (DEMO) – Review | MKAU Gaming). Not a lot has changed since then, though they have added a few more features to enjoy before the full release.

Developed by Backwoods Entertainment, We Stay Behind is a story-rich adventure. Playing as Laura Tanner, a renowned writer, you visit the former health resort to interview several inhabitants refusing to move. Due to a comet well on its course to destroy this once beloved town of Laburnum Creek, many people have deserted, with only a few staying behind.

With this new update to the demo, we have a bit more freedom to explore Laburnum Creek, giving us a bit more back story of the people who used to live there.

This really opens up the narrative of this already interesting story even more, and you have the option to walk around to each location or use your van and map to fast travel.

Other than that not much else has changed, besides maybe a few more dialogue options. The demo appears to end at the same point, with a great twist leaving you wanting more, and I was very intrigued with what was happening, and listening, well, reading, as to why people would rather stay, all while you shape, discover, and investigate what is happening in this small town.

We Stay Behind is a very interesting short story with a few variable outcomes depending on your choices, and it features a unique look that I haven’t experienced before. It’s definitely something to keep an eye on – these great little gems from these talented indie developers are always well designed.
