Convenience and functionality are my number one priority when it comes to devices. If it has multiple functions that make my life easier I am all about it. ‘Sablute’ founded in 2022, strive to provide affordable and quality products for all kinds of consumers. Sending MKAU the ‘Sablute SG Wireless Mechanical Keyboard’ we took this mini monster for a test drive to get our thoughts and opinions.
On initial appearances, the Sablute keyboard is petite, running at a 60% compact, meaning it is missing arrows and a number pad. Pint-sized and the letter keys are slightly darker; a nice subtle contrast that sets them apart while still keeping that overall keyboard style sleek and professional. My only questionable design opinion is the colour, grey is not very appealing in my opinion. The ABS keycaps are comfortable and textural to the touch making the overall usage an enjoyable experience as a whole.
The board itself has the keys set into a solid sturdy plastic frame with two flip-out feet underneath. Unfortunately, these can not be set to a particular height but the angle allows for comfortable ergonomic wrist placement. You will also find underneath a mini USB dongle with a nifty storage slot so it doesn’t go missing on the go and it’s on and off switch.
It is also RGB backlit and while there is no mention of the specifics, with a quick removal of the keys you will see each key is individually lit. Boasting 20 lighting effects, each keyboard is loaded with pre-made designs of all different rainbow monochromes. You also can set a choice of seven solid colour designs too. Using the function key you can also brighten and speed up or down your lighting effects. The lights definitely shine impressively causing the perfect ambience as dusk sets.
One surprising feature of this mechanical keyboard is the fact it is fully customisable. Provided with a Keycap and Switch Puller you can switch out everything to make it personalised to your own liking. Very convenient but very bizarre, especially since there is no software to customise any of the internal functions or lighting. Most keys are multifunctional though allowing for options. They are soft in sound for a mechanical keyboard though, making for soothing typing.
Speaking of the switches, they are hot removable linear red switches with 4ms of actuation. They boast light keystroke registration for accuracy and precision but this is something I am debatable about as they seem to need quite a downward pressure to trigger a keystroke.
This leads to my biggest issue with the keyboard; its 3 link modes. As well as the traditional cabled-in mode with a USB to USB- C data cord, you can link your keyboard via Bluetooth and a 2.4G USB dongle receiver. The USB cable will charge your deck for a decent amount of time (about 10 hours of working time give or take, depending on your brightness of backlighting, up to a whopping 600 hrs unlit ) and it works like a dream while always cabled in.
Once you start to use the 2.4G wireless receiver though I started to at times, even when fully charged, experience some input delay. Not enough to drastically affect office work, but enough to make online gaming frustrating for precision. The Bluetooth connectivity, while not as bad, did also experience some input delay also. Each wireless option does connect flawlessly to a range of devices, perfect for getting out and about with your keyboard.
Overall, the ‘Sablute SG Wireless Mechanical Keyboard’ with 3 link methods is a simple but sleek design that would look fabulous on any desktop. While at times I experienced minor laggy inputs with wireless, the affordable price of $33.99 USD via Amazon and the fact that you have a seamless experience while wired in makes this a fabulous little keyboard and every cent worth the price.
