It’s time to return to ancient Greece to solve puzzles and build an ancient Greek temple in honour of the Gods.
Developed by Daisy Games, Sokobos is a brain-twisting puzzle game that has expanded the classic genre of classic block-pushing games, and the puzzles will have you doing everything from assembling gardens to constructing pillars for an ancient temple to the Greek Gods. You control the character named Aeschylus and are thrown into brain-twisting missions where you need to think about the moves before you make them.
The game takes its graphical inspiration from the RPGs of old, featuring very simplified pixel models that use only a handful of colours, and the world is presented in a top-down view that allows you to see every hurdle you will encounter. It’s very simplistic, but the designs have been crafted in such a way that they still draw you into the game. While you play, Sokobos features a background music selection that draws you in, almost making you feel like you are surrounded by the Gods themselves and encouraging you to fulfill your duties.
Some really nice options within the game allow you to challenge yourself that little bit more, such as a move counter that shows you the best move scores, or if you’re more interested in having a nice chilled approach to the game, you can turn this off. Regardless of the option I chose, I constantly found myself having to redo levels because I was making the wrong moves and not studying the level enough.
This is an enjoyable game for anyone interested in brain-twisters, and it gives you plenty of opportunities to study the levels before making the first move. The simple graphics offer a bit of a unique experience familiar to older games, while the music helps to keep you grounded in your quest. With opportunities to beat your existing scores, Sokobos offers hours of brain-training gameplay.
