Sennheiser has always been known for high quality audio devices, and this continues under the new brand, EPOS. It was only recently that I discovered they also did gaming headsets, and with my Astro A10s on the way out, I was eager to try out the latest GSP 600 Professional Gaming Headset.

The EPOS|Sennheiser GSP 600 is an aggressive looking headset designed with gaming in mind and features the ability to easily swap between console and PC with a simple plug and play connection. With two different cables to choose from, be it the single headset connection commonly found on laptops or console controls, to the split mic/headphone connection, you’ll be sure to find a connection that works for you.

I would certainly recommend ensuring you keep a note of where the extra cable is kept, as it seems to have a proprietary fitting for plugging into the headset directly. While it seems to be a standard 3 band 2.5mm jack, it appears to have a coaxial fitting, similar to what you’d see on a TV antenna cable, so losing your preferred cable could prove to be a problem. The cables themselves are of great quality, featuring gold plated connections and a woven outer casing, they are sure to stand the test of time and I am yet to have them tangle on me.

The EPOS|Sennheiser GSP 600 is a very comfortable headset to wear, especially over extended periods of time. The suede-like material keeps your ears nice and cool, while the harder wearing faux leather keeps it looking fresh and helps reduce outside noise.

Each cup moves independently of the headband thanks to a two-way metal hinge system, while the headband itself is adjustable at two different points. This means the headset will fit any size or shaped head comfortably, while still having the soft padding on the top of the head supporting the weight more effectively.

Controlling your volume is much easier than most other headsets, with the right ear featuring an over-sized volume control that is very easy to locate mid-game, while the adjustable boom mic will automatically mute when lifted to a satisfying click.

The speakers themselves deliver an amazing array of sounds, with frequencies ranging from 10 – 30,000Hz, while the noise cancelling microphone delivers studio quality communication with your team mates.

Unfortunately, the ability to easily swap from console to PC comes with a couple of drawbacks, the biggest of which is that this headset can only deliver stereo sound. While it does deliver an exceptional quality audio experience, it isn’t as immersive as a system that delivers surround sound, meaning you don’t always hear where those incoming shots are coming from. For a lot of games, this isn’t too much of an issue, but might be a different story for most first person shooters.

The second issue is with the cable itself. If you’re constantly swapping from the single headset connection to the split connection for PC, you’ll eventually wear out the connection point, and I did notice on a couple of occasions I was experiencing some issues with feedback due to the connection not being properly set. Obviously, if you’re using this with the one cable, this won’t be so much of an issue as it’ll be set and forget.

The EPOS|Sennheiser GSP 600 Professional Gaming Headset is a beautifully crafted headset that delivers impeccable quality sound. High quality materials encompass studio quality technology for an all-round amazing experience, but for the price you pay you’d expect a few extra features. While it provides fantastic clarity for high and low tones, it’d be nice to have surround sound, but this is the draw back for relying on an analogue connection that works with everything.
