22 First Nations Creators To Celebrate NAIDOC Week For The Month Of July On Twitch

Twitch has expanded its dedicated NAIDOC Week celebrations to span the entire month of July, and will see 22 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creators share their heritage, history, culture, and trademark personalities live on stream.

The third, annual showcase features double the number of First Nations creators and will run alongside national NAIDOC Week celebrations — with this year’s theme being Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! Twitch’s month-long celebration aims to amplify the 22 creators’ voices and increase their visibility amongst a mass audience while spotlighting their livestreams on its ANZ front page and promoting their content across social media.

Charlotte Allingham, the talented 28-year-old Wiradjuri and Ngiyampaa artist and activist behind the brand Coffinbirth, was commissioned to create a piece of artwork (below) for Twitch’s NAIDOC celebration. Her powerful design calls on the community to support First Nations streamers and sets the creative tone for the month-long celebration.

Lewis Mitchell, APAC Content Director at Twitch, said,

“We’re so excited to be showcasing our First Nations creators for the whole month of July, backed by Charlotte’s incredible artwork. Supporting diverse voices and growing the wide variety of talented Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creators is so important to us. Indigenous Australians are some of the oldest storytellers on the planet and we love how the community joins us in celebrating and supporting them all year long on Twitch.”

The featured creators are listed on Twitch’s NAIDOC celebration page and include:

  • /gonebub, a 25-year-old Apex Legends streamer and First Nations woman representing Gumbaynggirr, Wakka Wakka and Mununjali country.
